Is Avocado Oil Good for You? My Personal Experience and What I Learned

Is avocado oil good for you? That was the exact question I asked myself one chilly evening while scrolling through a cooking videos.

I'd always used olive oil out of habit, never questioning it. But after hearing a friend rave about the health benefits and versatility of avocado oil, I decided to try it for myself.

What started as a small kitchen experiment turned into a subtle but noticeable lifestyle upgrade.

Let me share what happened when I made the switch and why I’m not going back.

My First Bottle of Avocado Oil

I picked up a small bottle of cold-pressed avocado oil from a local health store.

The label claimed it was rich in monounsaturated fats and vitamin E, had a high smoke point, and was “ideal for cooking.”

Honestly, I didn’t even know what a smoke point was at the time but I was intrigued.

I swapped out olive oil for avocado oil in my stir-fry that night.

To my surprise, not only did it taste great, but it also didn’t smoke or leave my kitchen smelling burnt like olive oil sometimes did at higher temps.

The veggies came out perfectly crisp-tender, and I couldn’t help but feel like I’d stumbled on a kitchen upgrade I never knew I needed.

What I Learned About Avocado Oil

As I started using it more, I naturally began to do some research.

Turns out, avocado oil is packed with health benefits,

  • It’s high in oleic acid, a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat that may help reduce inflammation.
  • It contains lutein, an antioxidant that supports eye health.
  • It’s one of the few oils that are truly versatile; it works in high-heat cooking and in raw dressings alike.
  • It may help with nutrient absorption from other foods (like leafy greens).
  • I also found out that it’s good for skin and hair; but more on that in a future blog.

The Subtle Changes I Noticed

After about two weeks of using avocado oil regularly, I noticed a few small shifts.

  • My skin felt slightly less dry, especially in winter.
  • I had fewer bloated, sluggish evenings after meals.
  • My husband (who had no idea I made the switch) mentioned that my roasted potatoes "tasted better than usual."

Coincidence? Maybe. But I was sold.

How I Use Avocado Oil Today

Now, avocado oil has a permanent spot in my pantry.

I use it for,

  • Roasting veggies (it doesn’t burn at high temps)
  • Stir-fries and pan-searing
  • Homemade mayo or salad dressings
  • Drizzling over soups and grain bowls

Sometimes, I even rub a drop into my cuticles or mix it with sugar for a DIY body scrub. It’s that versatile.

So, Is Avocado Oil Good for You?

In my experience, absolutely

While everyone’s body reacts differently, switching to avocado oil has been a simple, natural way for me to support my overall well-being without sacrificing flavor in the kitchen.

It’s not a magic potion, but it’s definitely a small habit that adds up.

If you’ve never tried it, I recommend picking up a small bottle. Your taste buds and maybe your body will thank you.
